Performing a Traceroute in Mac OS X If you are running Mac® OS X, you can use the Network Utility application, which is included with Mac OS X, to run the trace route. Launch Network Utility. Note: You can do this through Mac OS X Spotlight by typing Network Utility, and then clicking the Top Hit. The route task requires either a local network dataset on your Mac to compute routes, or access to a remote ArcGIS Network Analyst Service. When using a local network dataset, routes can be computed on the Mac even when it has no network connectivity. To do this in OS X, I open terminal and type 'route add -net 10.10.0.0 -netmask 255.255.0.0 192.168.0.1' This way the computer adds this line into its routing table, and all network traffic meant for the 10.10.0.0 network is sent to the correct gateway. Every time you surf to a website, your Mac checks with a domain name server (DNS) to match the name of the website with its IP address. Without the IP address, you won't reach the site. The default for most Mac users is the DNS run by their internet service provider. That's ok, but not perfect.
I would recommend you accomplish this with the networksetup utility from the command line. You can set it to add persistent static routes for individual network profiles. I used it to successfully accomplish exactly what you're talking about for both my 'Home - Docked' network location, and my 'Home - Wifi' location. Be careful that you do not have hyphens in the network service name that you're adding the routes into - it doesn't seem to 'like' that (the network locations name doesn't seem to matter much, however).
